speaking of baltimore

January 31, 2008

ive been searching for this song for a while… i didnt know anything about it except the verse about 1st floor, 2nd floor which i thought was real sick. and let it be, the track was on the wire soundtrack that just came out. COP IT. and respect yourself and COP THE DVDs, bootlegged or otherwise. just dont let the feds catch you!!! they takin pictures!!

i really do like this song. there is something very authentic about it and he paints a gnarly picture. like he’s talking about HIS neighborhood, i love songs like that.

i’m sure you’ve had that experience of hearing a song with no reference point, then stumbling upon it down the line — i dont know if its the take-it-now download culture or what, but it makes that track feel EXTRA SPECIAL.

when i first heard this sound i thought it was a crazy jungle book mashup. then i saw the video, and i have to say i was disappointed they were trumpets (or something). they should have made it horton heres a who or dumbo or something. sheeeeeeet how wild would a hyphy song with a dumbo sample be?!?! someone school me because i’m sure its out there. you go dumby but i go dumbo.
