he’s the type that you’re like what will he do next, not because he’s a trendsetter or anything but because his music becomes more compelling as it changes. like look at weak become heroes, probably my favorite streets song but he was totally a different guy and you can tell
i wish more artists were like that
kevin martin aka the bug (myspace) has been making music for a while but recently has done some serious work. i first heard about this man for tapping the conversation, a concept album made for coppola’s film the conversation. then he was into techno i guess. this year martin put on his bug hat again and released the impressive london zoo. on this one martin takes us back to jamaica via london dubstep and grime. far from a conventional dancehall record, martin’s latest outing thunders with the intense rhythm and bass-heavy lines that have come out of the UK’s interpretations of jamaican soundsystem styles. this and top ranking are definitely in heavy rotation.
the bug with flowdan - jah war (zShare)
the bug grabs roll deep’s flowdan for this track. flowdan’s style of bark-yelling his words becomes this murky chant over the heavy waves of bass. here martin leaves a sprinkle of queasy synths on top of a relentless beat. this track makes me think of burial and skepta but it’s clear that bug’s onto something else. i’ve had my hands on this for a little while and when i see other dudes blowing it up it makes me all warm and fuzzy inside. i wanna post more tracks (all 13 rounds are excellent) but you should grab it yourself.
my first thought was kim and jesse are lesbians? so it doesn’t really compare to that initial idea. they should have just made the graveyard girl video again

this is one of two mostly unnecessary remixes from the newly released single, the original was so good already. the funny part is there’s this DatA remix with big synths and all these arpeggios and its like an old m83 remix of a new m83 song, if that makes sense
