A COUPLE RAP SONGS I’VE BEEN LISTENING TO

August 20, 2008

Today I read about and downloaded a new song from Young Jeezy and Nas, “My President (is Black)”. It’s not that the song is bad but I feel like Jeezy’s work recently has been extra cheezy and I can’t tell if he’s serious. I realize that rappers talk about their cars a lot and that of course he would mention that but it’s weird to hear him say something about his president and his car as if they meant the same thing to him. Whatever. Jeezy as usual raps here really slow and has those ad libs all day but Nas steps up and kills this.

The other one is a couple days old but I can’t tell if it’s great or really bad. DJ Khaled of course does nothing on this track but this is clearly his work and it amounts to another installment of his characteristic anthemic tracks backed by superstar artists. Kanye needs to pump his breaks on the autotuner probably but that’s OK for now. Teddy’s chorus is focused and I like this better than “Out Here Grindin’”. I wish Jeezy was on this or Baby or somebody.
